World-famous singer Britney Spears is now engaged to long-term boyfriend Jason Trawick after her former manager got down on bended knee to pop the question.
Taking to social media sites Twitter and Facebook to express her delight over the proposal, Spears said: "OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I've been waiting for. Can't wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo"(sic).
A second post on the same day (December 17 local time) informed the singer's followers that she had spent the evening "with my new fiance and our closest friends and family".
The husband-to-be made an official announcement on December 16 to reporter Billy Bush on the TV show Access Hollywood, saying: "Yes, we are engaged."
Meeting for the first time at a party in 2006 under professional circumstances, the 40-year old Trawick was originally the star's TV manager.
The couple reportedly became inseparable in the times following Spears' divorce from ex-husband Kevin Federline.
In turn this led Trawick to resign from his professional capacity as the relationship took a romantic turn.
The pair also feature in one of Spears' music videos - "Criminal" - in which Spears' 40-year-old fiance plays the part of a hero, saving the 30-year-old songstress from an aggressive antagonist.
A number of media reports have commented that this will be the third time the singer behind the hits Baby One More Time and Oops, I Did It Again walks down the aisle.
The former child star was previously wed to Kevin Federline, with whom she had two children - Sean Preston, now six years old and Jayden James at five years of age - but she divorced the back-up dancer in 2006 in a public manner.
A number of court proceedings followed which saw Spears eventually gain child custody after an extended period.
In 2004 the celebrity - then 22 - was briefly married to her childhood friend Jason Alexander in a surprise ceremony at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The pair famously had their union annulled after only 55 hours of matrimony, with some reports stating that the move came after the singer's family sought advice from divorce lawyers and show-business professionals.
However, the singer and her new fiance are reported to have signed a thorough prenuptial agreement and are still in amazingly high spirits, with Spears writing on December 17 that she was "still glowing".
