Date: May 07, 2013

Whether you need to challenge a will or are involved in a child custody agreement, you will no doubt come into contact with the law at some stage in your life.

National Law Week, starting on May 13 and finishing on May 19, will give you and your family the perfect opportunity to discover what is available in terms of legal advice and support in New South Wales and how to access this should the need ever arise.

National Law Week is an annual event that, according to the official website, is aimed at "increasing public awareness about the law, the legal system and the legal profession as well as educating the community about the legal services available in New South Wales".

Events based around this year's theme - which is 'Law and Justice in Your Community' - have been organised and will be taking place all over the country.

These have been developed by and to cater to people from all walks of life, to make sure everyone can take part and learn about the law.

In New South Wales, there are a huge amount of events for you to choose from and attend.

Law students from the University of Newcastle will also be hosting a mock court trial on Monday, May 13. This will be held at 9:15 at Court room 7, Court House, Church Street, Newcastle, and members of the public are welcome to attend.

Or, if you are a woman and a legal professional, you might prefer to attend the 'Women in Law' breakfast that is being held in Albury at the same time (8:30 until 10:30). This breakfast, which has been designed for legal professionals, paralegals and support staff to meet other women on the New South Wales legal scene.

There will also be some informative and no doubt thought-provoking seminars about legal issues.

'The Older Person and the Law' is an informal talk that will raise and discuss important legal matters and the role they will play in your plans for the future. This will be held in the Mosman Library on Tuesday, May 14 at 10:30.

There will also be seminars offering family law advice on Wednesday, May 15. We recommend the family law expo, which is being held between 10:00 and 14:00 on Montague Street, Goulburn.

National Law Week is organised by a board, which consists of leading members of the New South Wales' justice system.
